My 45 Gallon Mini-reef
My Mini-reef is a replacement for my old 10 Gallon nano-reef.
It has about 45lbs. of live rock, a mixture from Florida, Marshall
Islands, Gulf of Mexico, Fiji, and who knows where else. It also has 4lbs of
live sand.
LiveStock
the fish in this tank has been removed.
- 7 Turbo Grazer Snails (I have seen many tiny snails crusing around
as well)
- Mushrooms, ranging from 1/4 inch to 1.5 inches.
- Polyps of various sorts.
My hardware setup is:
- Lighting
- 1 10,000K 175 Watt MH light in a custom reflector
- 1 30 Watt VHO Actinic
- Filtration
- Custom PVC skimmer
A pretty conventional design, just a four-foot length of four-inch PVC with a
3/4" feed run from the tank's surface skimmer/pump into the top, and a tap-off
on the bottom with a ball valve and siphon break. It works like I didn't
believe, though...
The skimmer is fed by one 500GPH pump.
The tank has been running since october of '96
As soon as I can, I'll scan in some pictures, so everybody can see what
a mess I've made.
